‘The Hurricane Lull Couldn’t Last’

More thoughtful and effective disaster policies are needed because the future will bring many more weather disasters like Hurricane Harvey.

The lead op-ed article in the WSJ today, ‘The Hurricane Lull Couldn’t Last’, is an interesting review of the outbreak of narrative claims that Harvey is caused by climate change. The author, Roger Pielke (Univ of Colo), argues that Harvey was caused by the fact that we were long-overdue for a hurricane Category 3 or stronger; and we need to resist the temptation to focus on CO2 emissions when there are a number of specific actions we should take to prepare for hurricanes and other, similar disasters. He mentions several of them.
