Journalist Chadwick Moore, who identifies as a gay conservative, tried to play down Christine Hallquist’s historic victory in the Vermont democratic gubernatorial primary by saying she had “"transgender privilege” on the Tucker Carlson program on Fox news on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Hallquist became the first openly transgender person to ever be nominated by a major political party for a Governor’s race.
Moore was a guest on the Tucker Carlson show along with Robin Biro, a former Obama campaign official. Here is Moore’s statement from the broadcast:
“You're absolutely right to acknowledge [Christine] Hallquist's transgender privilege. She can get away with many, many things simply by being transgender. I mean, who knows if that's even how she won this primary. But while the entire country is fixated on the fact that she's transgender, nobody knows anything about her policies. In fact, all we know… Yeah, you know that she's for Medicaid for all, she's a climate alarmist, she believes in $15 minimum wage and that's kind of it.”

LGBTQ+ advocates quickly sounded off on the statement as Halliquist had been campaigning in Vermont for months and won by a large margin of votes.
Members of the transgender community quickly took to Twitter to respond, resulting in the #TransgenderPrivilege hastag.
