It was anything but a typical Sunday when YouTuber and Twitch Streamer Harry Brewis, also known as H.Bomberguy, started a livestream to raise money for Mermaids, a charity in the U.K. that supports transgender and gender diverse kids. Brewis decided to start the charity stream in response to Anti-Transgender Activist and TV Writer Graham Linehan (The IT Crowd), who had been publicly campaigning against transgender charities buy encouraging people not to donate.

Next comes recently elected congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who Represents New York’s 14th district and happened to be sounding off on Twitter in response to comments that writer Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) made earlier on television when he said the new crop of Democrats need to “stop acting like young people,” and how newly elected democrats shouldn’t focus on issues such as “transgender bathrooms.”

Ocasio-Cortez was quick to point out how comments such as the one’s made by Sorkin are the reason why certain demographics feel unrepresented and fail to turn out. She also criticized the usually liberal leaning writer for using Republican tactics that aim to place people in boxes. In her chain of Tweets, she eventually fought back on subject of transgender people using restrooms that match their gender identity.

“Lastly, we wouldn’t need to talk about bathrooms at all if we acted like adults, washed our hands + minded our own business instead of trying to clock others,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Going by track record, I’d feel safer in a bathroom w/ a trans woman than a powerful male executive any day of the week.”

Ocasio-Cortez then decided use the occasion to do something good for the LGBTQ+ community by retweeting the link for Brewis’ livestream:

“If you’d like to use this as a good moment to support the queer community, there’s a charity twitch stream going on for @Mermaids_Gender,” the congresswoman retweeted.

The fun didn’t end there, as Ocasio-Cortez then decided to take things further and call into the livestream.

The two then discussed their love for the Nintendo 64 and games such as Super Mario 64 and Pokeman Snap.

Her appearance on the stream caused a frenzy on Twitch. Overall the stream generated over $340,000 for the transgender cause.

Ocasio-Cortez summed up the outcome best by tweeting:

“Lemons into Lemonade”
