States are pursuing voting rights

Beyond the federal For The People Act, there are 230 bills filed at the state level to reduce barriers to voting

State legislators will consider at least 230 bills aimed a reducing unwarranted barriers to voter participation, such as automatic voter registration (based upon data at DMV or other state agencies), or greater use of vote by mail.

Twelve states have already authorized automatic voter registration policies and have found that the process saves money and reduces errors by avoiding new manual data entry of voter information by using pre-existing state databases.

Democrats have introduced the For The People Act in the House of Representatives, and already 226 members have cosigned the measure. Senator Mitch McConnell, however, has sworn to kill the proposal if it reaches the Senate.
