Mitch McConnell's April Fools Charade

Mitch McConnell, the leading Senate obstructionist who blocked a vote on Merrick Garland, complains about obstruction

Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell celebrated April Fools day with an op-ed in Politico where he jokingly pretends to be outraged by slow action on President Trump's nominees.

McConnell is well known for refusing to allow even a committee hearing on President Obama's nomination of moderate Merrick Garland to the United States Supreme Court. He bragged that " "One of my proudest moments was when I looked Barack Obama in the eye and I said, 'Mr. President, you will not fill the Supreme Court vacancy.' "

But beyond that, McConnell has done more than any modern Senator to abuse and expand the filibuster as a tool to prevent Senators from taking votes on legislation. He has fought tooth and nail to kill proposals to eliminate the filibuster and allow the Senate to operate as it originally did--using majority rule.

McConnell is currently objecting to a vote in the Senate calling for the release of the full report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into foreign influence in US elections. In 2012, McConnell even filibustered his own bill after his ploy to divide Democrats on a debt ceiling vote failed.

We see you Senator, and we're not fooled.
