Culture affects everything. When the U.S. Air Force needed a name for a nighttime exercise for its combat cameramen and other airmen, someone must have associated the emerald glow of night vision equipment with Spider-Man villain Green Goblin and, voila, Exercise Green Goblin was born.

According to DVIDS, Green Goblin 19 took place at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. from Dec. 4-7, 2019. The exercise “trains and equips Airmen to operate night vision equipment so that they are able to procure imagery in low and no light situations.”
