On June 19, Al-Monitor published an article showing that Turkey is proud of the Ottoman conquest of Christian Constantinople—and it doesn’t have patience for those who criticize it. The Turks’ unabashed embrace of their history and heritage stands in stark contrast with Americans, who are currently tearing apart their own history and denouncing the foundations of their nation.
According to Al-Monitor, after “Dar al-Ifta, Egypt’s top institution for fatwas or religious edicts,” issued a statement that described the Islamic conquest of Christian Constantinople in a less than favorable light, the Turks objected and the institution backtracked. It ultimately described the Ottoman victory as “a ‘great Islamic conquest.’”
Al-Monitor also wrote the following about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan:
In his speech, Erdogan considered the conquest of Constantinople as a symbol of “reconstruction, advancement, justice and love,” and asked God to grant the Turkish people “more conquests, victories and successes.”
Visit Al-Monitor and read the entire article. It provides a great contrast between America and Turkey; a great contrast between a self-loathing nation and a nation that is not.
