‘Kin’ Trailer Reveals a Movie with a 1980s Sci-fi Feel

“From the producers of Stranger Things and Arrival.”

Lionsgate released the official trailer for the movie Kin today. And just over 30 seconds into it the sentence, “From the producers of Stranger Things and Arrival,” appears onscreen. Right about that same time some synthetic-sounding music starts playing.

Those two cues hint that this movie (seemingly set in contemporary times) will pay homage to the 1980s. And the plot does too: “Chased by a vengeful criminal, the feds and a gang of otherworldly soldiers, a recently released ex-con and his adopted teenage brother are forced to go on the run with a weapon of mysterious origin as their only protection.”

Myles Truitt and Jack Reynor portray the brothers, with the movie also starring James Franco, Dennis Quaid, Carrie Coons, and Zoë Kravitz.

Look for Kin in theaters starting on Aug. 31.
