Right about now, I’m guessing even us mild-mannered types are at that stage of quarantine where we’re just about ready to punch the next celebrity we see on the television right in their pretty little nose…even the ones we like.

I don’t recommend that. Assaulting strangers out of frustration is still frowned upon in most places.

So we don’t have to do that, here are some of my favorite music videos where the singers get the bejebus beaten out of them.

“Tighten Up” by The Black Keys

The Black Keys are always good for a laugh, and in this video they learn the hard way not to try to break up a playground fight among love-stuck kids. That is, before they turn on each other.

"Say Amen (Saturday Night)" by Panic! At The Disco

Frontman Brendon Urie does a stylish take on the action movie bloodbath genre, with an unexpected twist and a perfectly timed high note. Pro tip: stock up on pasta if you can’t find your carving knife.

“Rollercoaster” by Bleachers

For every video where the stalking level pursuit of the girl pays off, there’s always one that doesn’t go so well. Hey, you can’t blame a band for trying.

“Stitches” by Shawn Mendes

Sometimes we’re our own worst enemies and pretty boy Shawn Mendes goes a little Fight Club and literally beats himself up with his own guilt over this video.

“Wordplay” by Jason Mraz

Finally, if you’re ready to go medieval on someone, Jason Mraz gives us a good old fashioned stoning, complete with exposed bones and plenty of blood as he serenades us with this catchy little tune.

I have to say, all these are great videos, and the artists who subjected themselves to this had a wonderful sense of humor about it.

Next time you’re thinking of giving some smug celebrity a proper butt whippin’ — with or without pandemic — thank these guys for doing it for you.
