Here are the latest updates regarding the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, according to Bloomberg.

As of February 28, 2021, 3:44 PM EST, the global vaccination count was at 241 million. Vaccines have been administered in 103 countries and are averaging 6.73 million inoculations per day.

In the United States, 75,236,003 shots have been administered so far. Vaccinations began in the US on December 14 with healthcare workers being the first recipients. The US is averaging 1,735,053 inoculations per day. The number of vaccinations increased significantly in the past week as supply chains recovered from weather disruptions earlier in the month.

So far 49.8 million Americans have received at least one dose. 24.9 million people have received both doses of the vaccine.

  • 15.0 percent of the population has received the first dose
  • 7.5 percent of the population has received both doses
  • 78.0 percent of shots delivered have been administered.
  • California is the leading US state with almost 9 million doses administered.

At this rate, it would take approximately 8 months before 75 percent of the US population could be vaccinated. White House coronavirus advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci has estimated that 70-80 percent of the population would need to be vaccinated before a return to normalcy can take place.

The CDC today authorized Johnson & Johnson's vaccine for emergency use. This vaccine brings the US vaccine inventory to 3 candidates and should aid in speeding up the vaccine campaign.
