No one is born with perfect vision; detailed images develop throughout the first year of live.

Reddit user u/crescentcelledarch explained how fresh new babies see the world. At three day, the image is blurred and grayed, until it gradually clarifies at 1 year of age. The visual aid was developed by Ohio Optometric Association.

User u/KouignMe explains in the comments:

  • Experimenters use gratings to understand how detailed infants’ vision is. As the infant ages, the research provides a trajectory of increasing detail in the child’s vision.
  • Researchers found that infants are born with an understanding of faces, demonstrated in preferential looking experiments.
