Google claims AI is able to match or outperform radiologists during breast cancer detection.

Google's health research unit developed an artificial intelligence (AI) system that was able to match or outperform radiologists, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The AI system was effective in many cases, but doctors were able to beat the software. However, the AI software was able to catch and correctly identify cases of breast cancer that had been originally missed by radiologists.

The AI system was trained using thousands of mammograms from women in the U.K. and the U.S. However, the team that developed the software doesn't believe that it is ready to be used in clinics just yet. Google has been actively trying to develop products for the healthcare sector.

The company has developed similar products that will enhance medical professionals' abilities in detecting cases such as lung cancer detection, eye disease, and kidney injuries.
