Flat-Earth 'Scientist' Prepares Rocket Launch to Prove His Theory

The self-taught rocket scientist who "doesn't believe in science" will launch himself this weekend in a homemade rocket.

"Mad" Mike Hughes is planning a homemade rocket launch for the holiday weekend, hoping to provide irrefutable evidence that flat-earthers are not wrong. If all goes well, the launch - which will take place in California - should toss Hughes to an altitude of 1,800ft.

The rocket...will be launched from the back of a converted motorhome purchased from Craigslist. It is sponsored by a flat Earth research group, and Hughes plans a subsequent trip to try and observe the flatness of the Earth for himself.

In spite of his knowledge, the self-taught scientist does not consider what he's doing to be science:

“I don’t believe in science,” declared the 61-year-old. “I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air. But that’s not science, that’s just a formula.”

Hughes is not the first to consider checking the earth's curvature - or lack thereof, in his mind - with his own eyes.

Rapper BoB has made social media posts supporting the theory in the past, and is currently attempting to raise $1m to place “multiple weather balloons and satellites into space, for experimental exploration”. He has so far only managed to gather nearly $7,000 for the project.

The self-described daredevil said once he has landed, he intends to announce his run for governor of California.
