According to the New York Daily News, two weeks after doing away with it s minimum hunting age, Wisconsin has issued over 1,800 hunting licenses to children age 9 and under. Of that number, 52 were awarded to children under the age of 5. And of those 52, ten went to infants under one year old.
Celebrating the thought of armed infants was the bill's author, Rep. Rob Stafsholt. "1,814 KIDS!!!!" he wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. "The numbers are in on licenses sold under my Youth Mentored Hunting Law that got signed into law in time for gun deer season!"
DNR records also show that the killing of one deer was registered to a 4-year-old and seven deer were attributed to 5-year-olds, but the data fails to show who actually killed the animals.
