White Man Pulls Gun On Black Homeowner, Accuses Him Of Stealing His Own Mail
A Miami-Dade man has been arrested after allegedly threatening a Black man at gunpoint while yelling racial slurs as the man checked his mailbox, according to a WVSN report.
- Joseph Fucheck, 58, was arrested after being caught on cellphone video wielding the firearm. Court records show Fucheck has an extensive criminal history and is also a convicted felon. Now, Fucheck faces the charges of aggravated assault with a firearm with prejudice and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Both charges are second-degree felonies.
- Katherine Fernandez Rundle, a Miami-Dade state attorney, said the incident was motivated by hate and intimidation. Fucheck is now being charged with a hate crime.
“There’s no other conclusion that one can draw other than this was racially motivated,” Fernandez Rundle said via Zoom. “He just, he really just lashes out at Mr. Wynn. There was no provocation. It’s going to be an enhanced penalty of a hate crime because clearly that all those violent acts were caused by that person’s racism. We’re just seeing time and time again that racism is real, and racism plays out on street corners, in front of your home, in the most innocent of places to the most innocent of people. We’re going to do everything humanly possible to bring justice.”
- The incident occurred when a red Jeep placed something in Dwayne Wynn’s mailbox. When Wynn, who had been across the street talking to a neighbor, went to retrieve the mail the Jeep swiveled back around and the driver began to harass Wynn, calling him racial slurs and accusing Wynn of stealing.
Fucheck could face up to 15 years in prison for the altercation.
