He said asking Trump to condemn white supremacists is asking him to "say something bad about people who support him."

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) inadvertently admitted that right-wing extremists are an important part of President Donald Trump’s base when he suggested on CNN that moderator Chris Wallace set up Trump by asking him to condemn white supremacists.

Wallace asked questions “where he was asking the president to do something he knows the president doesn't like to do,” Santorum said. "Which is say something bad about people who support him. Right?"

When Trump was asked to condemn white supremacists at the debate, he instead said members of the right-wing group Proud Boys should “stand back and stand by,” before moving on to condemning antifa.
