Watch: Pence Praises Absentee Voting While Knocking Mail-In Voting
Vice President Mike Pence argued on Fox News that absentee ballots are perfectly safe, but it is mail-in voting that concerns the Trump administration.
Pence suggested that mail-in ballots are not subject to a verification process like absentee ballots, though they are effectively the same thing.
He told host Laura Ingraham:
“Let’s be clear, Laura. Absentee balloting is perfectly acceptable. You have to apply for an absentee ballot, signatures are checked, it’s confirmed, it is a long tradition, and we want to encourage any American that is not able to go to the polling place for any reason to apply for an absentee ballot today.”
“But this universal, mail-in voting, where you’re gonna see, literally, ballots showered all across the state — it is ripe for fraud. And we are headed straight to the courts to put a stop to it.”
