Despite the fact that former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying during the Mueller investigation, The Justice Department has dropped its case against him on Thursday. The department came to this decision after “a considered review of all the facts and circumstances of this case, including newly discovered and disclosed information.” reports Vox.

Flynn had gone for a plea deal and admitted he lied. But the circumstances changed when Flynn changed his mind and started to fight the case:

...then Flynn’s case took a bizarre turn. He began fighting his conviction, with his attorneys alleging the FBI had somehow railroaded him. And Attorney General Bill Barr, who has made no secret of his distaste for the Mueller investigation, assigned an outside prosecutor, US Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri Jeff Jensen, to review the case against Flynn.

The Trump administration and conservatives everywhere are congratulating the former advisor. President Donald Trump, like always, took to Twitter:

Yesterday was a BIG day for Justice in the USA. Congratulations to General Flynn, and many others. I do believe there is MUCH more to come! Dirty Cops and Crooked Politicians do not go well together!

This dialogue is a 180 from what Trump and Vice President Mike Pence were saying a few years ago. Here’s Trump’s tweet from 2017:

I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!

And Pence has also changed his tune.

Back in 2017, Pence told CBS News' Margaret Brennan that Flynn had lied to him about his contacts with the Russians.

"I knew that he lied to me," Pence said to Brennan.

The change of heart is on par for the administration; they change their position to whatever is politically helpful.
