“It is within his purview to determine what remains classified and what does not remain classified."

Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio) defended President Donald Trump apparently disclosing classified information during his campaign rally this week, saying it is up to the president when and where he declassifies intelligence.

CNN’s Erin Burnett noted that Turner was “being very precise” during his appearance on the network and “not revealing classified information.” Burnett added that the president, by contrast, chose to reveal classified information at one of his rallies.

Turner stammered back a response indicating he was unsure where all Trump might have made such statements, but defended the president’s right to share classified information where he pleases.

“It is within his purview to determine what remains classified and what does not remain classified," Turner said. The Republican then moved on to explain that there are different levels of briefings on Capitol Hill.
