WASHINGTON POST CONFIRMS NAME OF SHOOTER, PROFILE EMERGES

The Washington Post has confirmed the identity of the gunman who targeted Republican lawmakers at their baseball practice today.

James T. Hodgkinson III was shot by Capitol Police as he attempted to murder Republican members of Congress and their aides.

During the shootout, Mr. Hodgkinson wounded two Capitol Police officers. They returned fire and also injured him. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Mr. Hodgkinson was sixty-six years old and from Illinois. He was a retired home inspector and appears to have had a family.

Based on what’s publicly available in his Facebook profile, Mr. Hodgkinson was a supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and appeared to dislike Sec. Hillary Clinton referring to her as “Republican lite”. (We were going to link to his public Facebook profile but won’t given the circumstances.)

He also publicly loathed President Donald Trump.

None of these qualities are special or unique, but investigators will likely examine his political leanings to understand the motive behind the shooting.
