Vladimir Putin Attacks Democrats For Impeaching Donald Trump

Vladimir Putin calls President Donald Trump's impeachment trial a "continuation of political infighting."

Russian President Vladimir Putin expects U.S. President Donald Trump to survive the impeachment trial, criticizing Democrats for creating “made up charges,” according to The Wall Street Journal

Speaking at a wide-ranging end-of-the-year news conference, Putin described the events in Congress last week as “the continuation of political infighting” between Democrats and Republicans. “I don’t think Trump will be voted out of power on made up charges,” Putin said. “Democrats lost the last election, and now they want to win by other means.”

Almost all Democrats in the House of Representatives supported the two articles of impeachment charges against Trump for pressuring Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden: abuse-of-power and obstruction of Congress.

Republicans voted against sending Trump to a Senate trial, while the president fiercely defended himself on Twitter, where he attacked Democratic lawmakers for “trying to nullify the ballots of tens of millions of patriotic Americans.”

The first day of the impeachment trial in the Senate confirmed the proceeding trial rules. The second day is set to begin Wednesday.
