At a 2020 presidential campaign rally in Green Bay, WI on Saturday, President Donald Trump espoused the ultra-conservative narrative alleging that babies are being killed after a woman goes into labor during an abortion procedure.
Democratic governor Tony Evers promised to veto a bill mandating that doctors care for babies born after a failed abortion attempt. The legislation, largely pushed by Republican lawmakers, serves to perpetuate the myth that mothers and doctors are “executing” living babies. In reality, abortions almost never result in the birth of a baby, and in the extremely rare instances that they do, laws already require medical professionals care for babies.
“Your Democrat governor here in Wisconsin shockingly stated that he will veto legislation that protects Wisconsin babies born alive,” Trump said. "The baby is born; the mother meets with the doctor. They take care of the baby. They wrap the baby beautifully. Then the doctor and the mother determine whether or not they will execute the baby."
