Up To 400 Russian "Contract Soldiers" Already In Venezuela To Reinforce Maduro

Russia reportedly is backing private military contractors to bolster security for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

According to Reuters, Russia is backing private military contractors to reinforce the security of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. In recent days, the U.S. has demonstrated backing for Juan Guaido alongside Europe. However, China and Russia have been pushing for nonintervention.

According to one source, there may be about 400 Russian contractors in Venezuela. Another source claimed that the contractors have been in the country since before the election in May 2018 but more recently arrived. They also apparently flew to Venezuela from countries outside of Russia where other missions were being conducted.
