U.S. Averages A School Shooting Every 2.5 Days

Wednesday's school shooting in Florida was by far the deadliest this year.

According to Everytown for Gun Safety, there have been 18 gun-related incidents in U.S. schools so far this year. That total includes attacks with the intent to harm others, suicides, and accidental discharges.

Wednesday's school shooting was by far the deadliest in recent years, with 17 people killed and more than a dozen others injured.

And as Politico notes, this translates to a school shooting every two and a half days so far this year.

Everytown, the gun-control group backed by Michael Bloomberg, says this is the 18th school shooting of 2018. We are seven weeks into the year. That means there’s a school shooting every 2.5 days. There have been 30 mass shootings this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
