Trump Vows “Maximum Criminal Penalties” For Voter Fraud, A Nonexistent Problem

President Trump said law enforcement officials have been "strongly notified" to be on the lookout for voter fraud.

In what some on Twitter called an attempt at voter intimidation by a sitting U.S. president, Donald Trump issued a tweet warning Americans that law enforcement had been "strongly notified" to watch for potential voter fraud -- "ILLEGAL VOTING" -- during Tuesday's midterm elections.

Rampant voter fraud is a specter Republicans have raised consistently in recent years, but there is no evidence to support the claim that illegal voting is a widespread issue.
