Trump To Undo Obama-Era Healthcare Protections For Transgender Americans

President Donald Trump has announced his intent to undo health protections for transgender Americans.

President Donald Trump has announced his intent to undo health protections for transgender Americans according to the New York Times.

The Trump administration says it plans to roll back a rule issued by President Barack Obama that prevents doctors, hospitals and health insurance companies from discriminating against transgender people. Advocates said the change could jeopardize the significant gains that transgender people have seen in access to medical care, including gender reassignment procedures — treatments for which many insurers denied coverage in the past.

This Obama-era rule covers nearly all practicing U.S. physicians.

Whatever the cause, the result is Trump’s presidency and administration have now adopted a broad anti-LGBTQ agenda — one that has gone after LGBTQ workers, troops, and even patients. And more than showing Trump’s dishonesty, this agenda potentially threatens the rights of millions of LGBTQ Americans.

The administration has sought to ban transgender Americans from serving in the U.S. military, something a U.S. judge recently put on hold.
