Trump To Pence: Because Of Me, People Are Mentioning God More
On Thursday, the National Day of Prayer, Trump said that his presidency has made people more religious. He said that, under his leadership, people are “using the word God again, and they're not hiding from it.”
“When I first started campaigning, people were not allowed or in some cases foolishly ashamed to be using on stores 'Merry Christmas,' 'Happy Christmas,'" he said. "Take a look at your stores nowadays - it's all Merry Christmas again."
This is not the first time that Trump has claimed total responsibility for a supposed religious revival in the U.S. Exactly one year ago, he said that people are saying “one nation, under God” more often because of him.
In a speech on May 2, 2018, Trump, speaking about mentioning God in the Pledge of Allegiance, said, “And we say it here, ya know? Lot of people, they don’t say it. But, you know what, they’re starting to say it more, just like we’re starting to say ‘Merry Christmas’ when that day comes around.
“ You notice the big difference between now and two or three years ago, it was, all, it was going in the other direction rapidly, right? Now it’s [thrusting his hand vertically in the air] straight up.”
He also said that God guided him through the “witch hunts” of the special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
