Trump: The Vetting Process For Security Clearances Is Too Rigorous

President Donald Trump claimed that the security clearance process is too tough and exacting.

A week after his chief of staff ordered an overhaul of the process for granting White House security clearances, President Donald Trump on Friday blamed an overly rigorous background vetting process for holding up the approval of his son-in-law’s permanent security clearance. “It’s a broken system and it shouldn’t take this long,” said Trump during a joint news conference at the White House with visiting Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

According to published reports, Trump son-in-law and White House senior adviser Jared Kushner has been going through a vetting process for his security clearance since last year.

Kushner has made dozens of modifications to his security clearance application following its initial submission.

It has been reported that Kushner is a voracious consumer of U.S. intelligence and that Kushner requests more classified information than nearly all other White House officials.

Kushner is currently under criminal investigation in relation to the Russia probe.
