Trump Shares Tweet Mocking Joe Biden For Wearing Mask During Pandemic
President Donald Trump shared a tweet on Monday night mocking presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden for wearing a face mask during a public appearance earlier in the day, The Washington Post reported. Trump himself wore no face covering during his Memorial Day appearances, as now seems customary.
The tweet Trump shared was posted by Fox News commentator Brit Hume, who suggested that Biden looked ridiculous wearing a mask and that this is why the president refuses to wear one.
Hume wrote, alongside an image of Biden: “This might help explain why Trump doesn’t like to wear a mask in public. Biden today.”
Despite backlash to Hume’s tweet, Trump decided to share it with his more than 80 million Twitter followers, all but confirming the notion that he is simply too vain to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines that Americans wear face coverings in public amid the pandemic.
The Post noted that “Trump, who has largely steered clear of being seen in public and at the White House wearing a mask, was barefaced as he participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and while speaking later at Fort McHenry in Baltimore.”
During the Arlington event, “first lady Melania Trump, Vice President Pence and Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper” joined the president, also shirking mask-wearing guidance.
On the other side of the aisle, Biden and his wife both sported masks during a wreath laying at the Delaware Memorial Bridge Veterans Memorial Park.
Twitter users quickly blasted Hume and the president over his mocking of Biden:
