Trump Seeks Delay In Rape Case As He Deals With Different Sexual Assault Trial

President Donald Trump currently faces two defamation lawsuits from women who have made sexual assault allegations against him, and he has now asked a judge to delay one case while he appeals the other, according to the New York Post.
The president’s attorneys want to pause the lawsuit brought by New York journalist E. Jean Carroll until the New York Court of Appeals has ruled in the case brought by former ‘Apprentice’ contestant Summer Zervos.
Trump has argued that if his appeal in the Zervos case is successful, the ruling could impact Carroll’s lawsuit as well. He is expected to argue in court that the U.S. Constitution “bars state cases, like the Zervos case, from proceeding while he is president,” The Post reported.
“If President Trump is successful on that appeal, this Court would be without jurisdiction to hear this action while President Trump is in office, and that threshold issue should be decided in the Court of Appeals before this action proceeds,” Trump lawyer Marc Kasowitz wrote in Manhattan Supreme Court documents.
The court papers also say that allowing Carroll’s case to move forward would “deny Trump his right to immunity and it would be ‘burdensome’ to litigate the case and keep up with the court’s schedule while he’s in office, the court papers say.”
