Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly invited Trump to a military celebration. Trump said he would love to go.

President Donald Trump told reporters last week that Russian President Vladimir Putin invited him to a military parade celebration in May and he would love to attend if possible, according to Politico.

“President Putin invited me,” Trump said. “It’s a very big deal, celebrating the end of the war, etc., etc. A very big deal. I appreciate the invitation.”

But Trump was unsure if the 2020 campaign would prohibit his attendance, saying, “It is in the middle of our political season, so I will see if I can do it, but I would love to go if I could.”

Politico noted that Putin also extended Trump an invitation earlier this year to attend “Russia’s Victory Day festivities, which commemorate the Soviet Union's triumph in World War II and are a celebration of Russian military might.”

The president, who currently faces an impeachment inquiry over his actions regarding Ukraine, has repeatedly been criticized for his friendly stance toward Putin, despite Russia’s position as a U.S. adversary.
