Trump Says Chokeholds Sound So “Innocent” And “Perfect”
President Donald Trump described the “concept of chokeholds” as “so innocent, so perfect” during a recent interview with Fox News.
Speaking with Fox host Harris Faulkner, Trump said: “Sometimes if you’re alone and you’re fighting somebody, it’s tough. We have some real bad people. You saw that in the last couple of weeks. I think the concept of chokeholds sounds so innocent, so perfect, and then you realize if it’s a 1-on-1. Now if it’s 2-on-1 that’s a little bit of a different story. Depending on the toughness and strength. You know, we’re talking about the toughness and strength. There’s a physical thing here also.”
The president added that a chokehold might be necessary “if a police officer is in a bad scuffle.”
Trump said “generally speaking” he thinks the practice should be ended.
On what he wants to see in policing, Trump said: I want to see really compassionate but strong law enforcement, police force, but law enforcement, and I don’t want to see mistakes.”
