President Donald Trump’s golfing excursions, cost taxpayer’s millions and raised the total amount of taxpayer funds spent on similar golfing excursions to $108.1 million, according to The Huffington Post.
Trump increased the total amount of taxpayer money spent on his golfing excursions to $108.1 million, while awarding government contracts to his own golf courses as a result.
One golf trip at Trump’s golf course in Doonberg, Ireland, was folded into his European trip which included a state visit to England and a ceremony in Normandy to commemorate the Allied Invasion, which occurred during World War II.
Scheduling a golfing trip in Ireland was logistically inconvenient and used taxpayer’s money.
Costs of the golfing trip include “$1,023,940 to rent cars and limos; $10,866 to install temporary phone lines and $16,325 to rent golf carts for the Secret Service agents protecting Trump on the golf course,” according to an article in the Huffington Post.
Contracts for these golfing trips have been said to directly benefit Trump’s golf course businesses, since he insists on only golfing at courses that he owns.
“At this point, it appears that Donald Trump views his presidency as just another way to support his business,” said Jordan Libowitz of the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
Out of Trump’s 2.5 years in office, 187 of those days have been spent on a golf course, with only two of those golfing excursions not taking place at his own property.
This past weekend, Trump went to golf at Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster, for three days. His use of Air Force One for transportation, as well as his use of Marine Corps helicopters, cost taxpayers an additional $1.1 million.
Trump’s insistence on golfing at his own golf courses has resulted in personal gains as he awards the different contracts associated with presidential travel to his own businesses.
