Trump’s Talk Of Civil War Appears To Derive From Kremlin Talking Points

Russian troll farms and state TV promoted the idea of civil war in the U.S., among other talking points Trump mimicked.

CNN analyst and former FBI special agent Asha Rangappa noted on Monday that many of President Donald Trump’s political talking points just so happen to coincide with those put forth by Russia’s troll farm, as detailed in a criminal complaint filed in court last year.

Rangappa highlighted that Trump’s Sunday tweet warning of civil war if he is impeached, by way of a quote from evangelical Pastor Robert Jeffress, was also one of the talking points pushed by Russians.

She noted several other points as well, including widespread voter fraud, “fake news”, and discrediting former special counsel Robert Mueller as “highly partisan” — all of which became Trump’s assertions as well.

Russian media analyst Julia Davis chimed in to point out that Russian state TV had promoted civil war in the U.S. last year, at one point airing footage of the Deputy Dean of World Politics at Moscow's State University saying: "Unfortunately, Trump didn't reach the level of Abraham Lincoln & didn't drive the U.S. to civil war. That's sad. Hopefully, he'll become Herbert Hoover and at least drive them into a Great Depression."
