Donald Trump is ranked below even James Buchanan, who infamously did nothing as the U.S. slid into civil war.

A survey gauging the greatness of U.S. presidents from George Washington to Donald Trump found that the current Commander in Chief comes in at last place.

Respondents were current and recent members of the Presidents & Executive Politics Section of the American Political Science Association, which is the foremost organization of social science experts in presidential politics.

Trump came in behind James Buchanon, who is infamously known for doing nothing as the U.S. slid in civil war.

Donald J. Trump makes his ranking debut at the very bottom of the list. His average rating is 12.34, which is nearly three points lower than James Buchanon (15.09), who previously occupied the lowest rank.

Coming in at first place, unsurprisingly, is Abraham Lincoln, for his success in keeping the Union together.

How else does Trump measure up to past presidents?

  • Trump comes in at number one for most polarizing presidents.
  • When it came to grading Trump's first year in office, he received 3 Fs and 2 Ds, with his best score on Communicating with the Public and his worst on Embodying Institutional Norms.
  • Trump did not make the list for who should be the next president added to Mount Rushmore.
