President Trump's criticism of his former national security adviser has led many to question why he hired John Bolton.

President Donald Trump reportedly spent a sizable portion of his Wednesday interview with The Wall Street Journal criticizing former national security adviser John Bolton over Bolton’s upcoming book that paints him in an unflattering light.

  • Trump told The Journal: “The only thing I liked about Bolton was that everybody thought he was crazy. When you walk into the room with him, you’re in a good negotiating position, because they figure you’re going to war if John Bolton was there.”
  • The publication noted that in the book, “Bolton says Mr. Trump’s decision making prioritized his re-election over the national interest and said the president had a penchant for ‘giving personal favors to dictators he liked,’” among other allegations.
  • Trump also lashed out at Bolton on Twitter late Tuesday night, calling his former national security adviser a “dope”

Wacko John Bolton’s “exceedingly tedious”(New York Times) book is made up of lies & fake stories. Said all good about me, in print, until the day I fired him. A disgruntled boring fool who only wanted to go to war. Never had a clue, was ostracized & happily dumped. What a dope!
