Before cameras, President Donald Trump said that he felt "very badly" for his Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta. Acosta was the U.S. Attorney of Miami who agreed to billionaire Jeffrey Epstein's lenient punishment for child sex abuse.
Trump told reporters that he knew of Epstein but that he "didn't like him". Trump further claimed that he only knew of Epstein because he was a "social fixture" in South Florida.
In 2002, Trump said the following about Epstein:
“He’s [Epstein] a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”
During the impromptu press conference, Trump expressed more sympathy for Acosta than he did for any of Epstein's victims.
