Trump Mocks A U.S. Senator (Who Is Also A Veteran) For Not Serving In Vietnam

Trump's attempted to embarrass Senator Dick Blumenthal for not serving in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

While in Vietnam, President Donald Trump attempted to embarrass Senator Dick Blumenthal (D-CT) for not serving in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Trump sent the message via tweet:

Blumenthal was an active Marine during the Vietnam era, but he never actually served in Vietnam.

Blumenthal enlisted in the U.S. Marines and was eventually promoted to the rank of sergeant. Unlike Blumenthal, Trump never served in the military.

Trump received five military deferments, most famously, he received a deferment for bone spurs, a condition that affects walking. Bone spurs also had a fringe benefit: It made people with the condition ineligible for military service.

According to reports, a doctor, who was doing Trump's father a favor, diagnosed Trump with bone spurs, thus ending his military career before it even began.
