Trump suggested on Thursday that alleged corrupt activity by Joe Biden is why China "ripped off" the U.S. for years.

President Donald Trump suggested on Thursday that the U.S. trade deficit with China is somehow linked to the corruption he alleges former Vice President Joe Biden engaged in around the world.

Speaking before reporters on the White House lawn, Trump said there are likely “many other countries that [Biden and his son] scammed,” mentioning specifically that the Democratic presidential candidate “scammed China and Ukraine.”

“And basically, who are they really scamming?” the president continued. “The USA, and it’s not good.”

After beginning to walk away from the press, Trump quickly turned back and offered a conspiracy theory worthy of Alex Jones’ Infowars:

“And that’s probably why China, for so many years, has had a sweetheart deal, where China rips off the USA,” Trump said. “Because they deal with people like Biden, where they give their son a billion and a half dollars.”

This is likely why China has “for so many years ... been ripping off our country,” he concluded.
