Trump Floats Election Delay ‘Until People Can Properly, Securely & Safely Vote’

President Trump suggested delaying the 2020 election rather than allow widespread mail-in voting.

President Donald Trump floated the notion of delaying the 2020 election in a Thursday morning tweet, rather than allowing Americans to vote by mail-in ballot.

  • Trump wrote: “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”

  • NBC 4 noted that “the dates of federal elections are set by Congress, and the Constitution makes no provisions for a delay to the Jan. 20 inauguration.”
  • Trump’s tweet comes as “polls show him trailing his likely opponent Joe Biden by double digits.”
