Trump Didn’t Join Past Presidents In Reciting ‘Apostles’ Creed’ At Bush Memorial

The president and first lady stood silently as others recited the Apostles' Creed during George H.W. Bush's funeral.

As attendees of former President George H.W. Bush’s funeral joined together in reciting the Apostles’ Creed on Wednesday, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump stood noticeably silent, drawing immediate criticism online.

From The Hill:

Trump stood solemnly beside the Clintons and Obamas as the former presidents recited the Christian creed from their programs.

Trump did not engage in some of the singing during the service, some detractors pointed out. Former President George W. Bush also did not participate in all of the songs.

"Striking that all the former Presidents and First Ladies recited the Apostles Creed, but Trump and Melania stood silently and did not," one Twitter user wrote. "The creeds are at the heart of historic orthodox Christianity."

Trump, who consistently polls well among evangelical Christians and enjoys strong support from the religious community’s leadership, claims to be Presbyterian.
