Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) lent crucial support to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh despite the assault allegations.

Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) will be heralded as the “hero of the Kavanaugh confirmation” at a pricey California fundraiser this week, according to The Intercept, just before the one year anniversary of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s controversial confirmation.

The fundraiser will be thrown by the Lincoln Women’s Leadership Committee, with tickets for a private reception ahead of the event costing $500 and seats at the luncheon’s head table setting donors back at least $1,000.

“The committee is part of the Lincoln Club of Orange County, founded in 1962 as an alliance of wealthy Republican donors in Orange County,” The Intercept noted.

Collins drew criticism in her home state last year after she questioned the credibility of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who had come forward with sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh during his confirmation process.

The New England lawmaker made a lengthy speech on October 5 announcing she would support Kavanaugh’s nomination, despite the allegations from multiple women that he had engaged in sexual misconduct during his high school and college years.

Republicans were quick to cast Kavanaugh as the victim of a ‘MeToo’ era gone mad, and Collins was also cast in the same light.

“As you know, her actions during the Kavanaugh hearings have made her a #1 target among the radical left,” the invitation to this week’s fundraiser read.
