An individual under the alias Ring Arius has launched a petition for Danny Devito to become the next Wolverine, now that Hugh Jackman has decided to retire from arguably the most famous role of his career, according to ABC-affiliate television station WTVM.

"Have Danny Devito play the rebooted Wolverine in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) - The only man able to take the throne after Hugh Jackman,” the petition boldly demands. “We believe that if Wolverine is to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the only man able to pull it off is Danny Devito.”

And while it is unlikely that the 74-year-old, four-foot-ten, Golden Globe-winning actor will get the job anytime soon, over 23,000 people have signed the petition as of noon on May 23.

“This is the most important cause I’ve ever supported,” said Ryan Foster, one of the many backers of the petition.

“Mr. Devito would be a perfect casting choice for Wolverine, as he is both the accurate height, and muscle mass of the iconic hero, as well as the acting chops to pull off the personality,” Matthew Marchesi added.
