The Best People: Trump’s New Press Secretary Was Recently Arrested For Two DUIs
First Lady Melania Trump announced that Stephanie Grisham is to replace outgoing White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, despite her driving records in Arizona, according to The Washington Post.
Stephanie Grisham was previously hired to serve as the First Lady’s press secretary in March 2017. She now will fill the combined roles of press secretary and Communications Director, as Donald Trump’s third press secretary.
Former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders revealed that, “During [Trump’s] campaign she developed a good relationship with the president and that’s carried through. [Grisham] has developed a great amount of trust from both the president and the first lady.” “There aren’t a lot of people who have a lot of regular interaction with both of them,” she said.
While working as the press secretary for Melania, Grisham fiercely defended her against critics of both Melania and her husband. White House aides described Grisham’s relationship to the Trumps to be one “built on mutual protection and trust.”
However, in 2013 and 2015, Grisham was stopped for driving under the influence, according to Arizona court records.
Upon leaving her position as White House press secretary, Sarah Sanders tweeted a congratulatory message saying that the team “will be in such great hands” and that she was “proud to have another mom and a great friend” take over her role.
