The 400 Richest Americans Now Own More Wealth Than 60% Of The Country

The 400 wealthiest Americans have tripled their share of the country's wealth since the early 1980s, according to Axios.

According to Gabriel Zucman, an economist at the University of California, Berkeley, wealth concentration “seems to have returned to levels last seen during the Roaring Twenties.”

Zucman, who also advised Elizabeth Warren, found that the 400 richest Americans now have more wealth than 60% of the country. The bottom 60% had their share of wealth go from 5.7% in 1987 to 2.1% in 2014. According to Axios, the information comes from a working paper by Zucman on Global Wealth Inequality.
