Senator Ted Cruz proposed resolving a Twitter feud between actor Ron Perlman and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) with a wrestling match, according to The Washington Post. Cruz was coming to the aid of Jordan, whom Perlman suggested was ugly in a separate Twitter battle with another GOP congressman.
- In a tweet attacking Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who criticized a recent vote by the U.S. Soccer board of directors for repealing a policy forcing players to stand for the national anthem, Perlman responded by posting a picture of Jordan and writing: “You’re lucky for this guy, Matt. If it weren’t for him you’d be the ugliest politician walking.”
- Cruz returned the shot at Perlman, tweeting in response:
“Listen Hellboy,” Cruz wrote, referring to a film role last played by Perlman more than a decade ago. “You talk good game when you’ve got Hollywood makeup & stuntmen. But I’ll bet $10k — to the nonpolitical charity of your choice — that you couldn’t last 5 min in the wrestling ring w/ @Jim_Jordan w/o getting pinned. You up for it? Or does your publicist say too risky?”
- Perlman came back for Cruz, and then suggested to wrestle Cruz instead, offering a $50,000 donation to Black Lives Matter if Cruz accepted:
“Wait, is this THEE Ted Cruz?” Perlman wrote. “Is this the same guy let little Donnie call his wife A dog and his father an assassin and now kisses his ass?”
Perlman suggested the offer that he wrestle Jordan was “problematic,” referencing the accusations against Jordan that he turned a blind eye to the sexual abuse of wrestlers by a team doctor during his tenure as assistant coach at Ohio State University.
