State Department officials consulted with Fox News host and Trump ally Sean Hannity in reaching its decision to oust former Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovich earlier this year, according to Yovanovich’s testimony before House Democrats last month.
The revelation came when a transcript of the former ambassador’s testimony was released by the House on Monday, RawStory reported.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who is leading the House’s impeachment efforts, asked Yovanovich if she was aware of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s feelings regarding attempts to have her removed from her post by President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, and son, Donald Trump, Jr.
Yovanovich’s response mentioned Hannity: “I was told… that the Secretary or perhaps somebody around him was going to place a call to Mr. Hannity on Fox News to say, you know, what is going on? I mean, do you have proof of these kinds of allegations or not? And if you have proof, you know, tell me, and if not, stop.”
She said the call was apparently made to Hannity but could not say definitively who made the phone call. Yovanovich added that “for a time, you know, things kind of simmered down.”
