SOUTH CAROLINA GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE: I AM “PROUD OF THE CONFEDERACY”

South Carolina Republican Gubernatorial Catherine Templeton told the Associated Press that she is “proud of the Confederacy” according to Bloomberg News.

The Republican candidate claimed that Dylann Roof, the White Supremacist murderer behind the mass-shooting at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church, “took our symbol and turned it into hate.”

South Carolina was the first State to secede from the Union following the election victory of President Abraham Lincoln.

The Confederacy existed to perpetuate the existence of African-American slavery within the United States.

While apologists claim that the secession was about “states rights”, the proximate cause for secession was the electoral success of President Abraham Lincoln whom the Southern States feared would end slavery.

The Confederate flag is a reminder of the South’s struggle to keep the institution of slavery extant, an institution that separated families, legalized mass rape and dehumanized other human beings based on their race.
