According to ABC 4 News, sex outside of marriage is a crime according to a law in Utah. Those who are not married to each other could be fined or arrested for fornicating with someone who they are not married to, according to the law enacted in 1973.
On Wednesday, the Utah State Legislature finally repealed the misdemeanor crime with the passage of Senate Bill 43, Criminal Provisions Modifications. The vote was surprisingly close, but the bill passed with a vote of 43 to 32. The bill will now go to Governor Gary Herbert, who will either sign the bill or veto it.
