A 2016 letter from the Obama administration to local courts across the country advising that they ought not try to use fees to generate revenue has been rescinded by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
The guidance was meant to stop the practice of increasing revenue on the backs of the nation's poor - people who are most adversely affected by such practices.
The move comes as Sessions revokes more than two dozen Justice Department guidance documents going back to the 1990s on various topics, the Post reports.
Sessions said the move would do away with “the long-standing abuse of issuing rules by simply publishing a letter or posting a web page.”
Sessions said there is "a regulatory process in statute, and we are going to follow it", adding,
“This is good government and prevents confusing the public with improper and wrong advice.”
